From working at the French Film Office in the 1960s, Haskell went to “The Village Voice,” where she was a groundbreaking, extremely influential feminist film critic. Her feminist consciousness also informed her classic 1977 best-seller, “From Reverence to Rape: The Treatment of Women in the Movies.” Her 1990 memoir, “Love and Other Infectious Diseases,” chronicled her marriage then, and now, to film critic Andrew Sarris.
