Trained as a concert pianist and a violist, Schwarzbaum switched to journalism, writing for “The Real Paper” in Boston before coming to New York, where she has been a film critic for “Entertainment Weekly” since its 1991 inception. A member of The New York Film Critics Circle and The National Society of Film Critics, she has been on the selection committee of the New York Film Festival.
